SiteSwap Ireland
How we handle information when you use the Irish marketplace.
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Patrick O’Sullivan operates SiteSwap Ireland and is responsible for decisions about its personal-data processing (the data controller). Contact contact@siteswap.ie about privacy, rights requests or complaints.
The operator currently works from Australia. The Irish marketplace has its own service settings and database; this does not mean every provider or person supporting it is located in Ireland.
We receive the details you submit: username, email, password (stored as a hash), optional name and telephone, town/area, county, profile details, and business information where relevant. We also store your listings and images, favourites, messages, reviews, reports, invoice details, preferences and support enquiries.
Account records include verification and reset tokens/expiry times, acceptance of terms, account status and optional push subscriptions. Technical services may receive connection information, such as IP addresses, request times and error information, to deliver and protect the service.
For assisted listings and recruitment, we may receive seller/contact details from you, an authorised colleague or introducer, or public business information. We record permission to prepare profiles/listings and may keep outreach notes and follow-up dates. Ask us where a record came from or request correction or removal.
We use necessary account, listing and communication information to provide the service you request and manage our agreement with you. Our legitimate interests in keeping the marketplace reliable and safe support proportionate security, moderation, support, staff activity records and business outreach. We consider the effect on the people concerned and you can object to processing based on those interests.
Consent applies where we ask you to enable an optional feature. Your browser controls location and push permissions; you can withdraw those permissions. We may retain or disclose relevant records to meet a specific legal obligation, for example a valid authority request. Required account details are needed to provide an account; you can browse public pages without registering.
Service emails cover verification, password resets, enquiries, invitations and relevant marketplace activity. They are not a subscription to promotional mail. We do not currently sell personal information to advertisers or use advertising cookies on the Irish site.
Profiles, listings, images and reviews contain public information and may be indexed by search engines. A telephone number is displayed where you choose to show it, or include it in public content. Your login email is not a general public profile field. Information you put in listing descriptions or photographs can still identify you; avoid unnecessary personal details.
Messages and invoices are available to their participants. Authorised administrators can handle complaints, safety issues and support. Staff have restricted seller-assistance and outreach access; they do not receive general account-administration permissions. We record the actor, action/route, target and time of staff activity, without copying message text or form passwords into that activity record.
Render hosts the application; MongoDB Atlas stores the Irish database; Cloudinary stores and delivers images; Resend delivers application emails; Infomaniak provides our support mailbox. These services process the information needed for their functions. They may use supporting services and process information in other countries, including outside the European Economic Area. Operator/support access may also take place from Australia.
Our Irish database and Resend sending domain are configured in Ireland, and Infomaniak hosts its mail in Switzerland. Those settings do not restrict all support, delivery, image processing or provider operations to those countries. Contact us for information about particular recipients, processing locations and applicable international-transfer safeguards.
Town/county location searches are sent from our server to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find coordinates. The lookup does not need your account name or email. If you request nearby results using device location, your coordinates are sent to SiteSwap for the search; they are not made a public profile field. Optional push notifications use your browser's push-delivery service when enabled.
We may share relevant information with authorities or advisers where a lawful obligation, safety investigation or legal claim requires it. We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated processing.
The construction-marketplace cookie maintains your login and siteswap-csrf helps protect authenticated requests against forgery. These are session cookies used for account and security functions. Your browser can clear or block them, although login and protected features may then stop working.
Optional browser-session visitor tracking (ss-traffic) is disabled for Ireland. We do not set it or record visitor/QR-open events through that tracker. Operational records such as accounts, listings, support messages and staff actions are separate from visitor analytics.
Browser session storage remembers a dismissed in-app-browser warning (siteswap-in-app-warning-dismissed) and your requested return-to-list scroll position (siteswap-scroll:…). These are stored in your browser for that tab/session, rather than sent to our visitor tracker.
We keep account and content records while needed to provide your active account and marketplace features. Verification/reset links have expiry times; expiry does not necessarily remove the associated database fields. You can remove listings and request account deletion using settings or by contacting us.
Support, outreach and moderation records are kept while needed to resolve the enquiry, pursue the relevant follow-up, investigate an issue or meet a specific record-keeping obligation. The purpose, age and ongoing need for the record determine retention; contact us to ask about a particular record. We do not promise that every category is automatically erased on a fixed schedule.
Deletion may not immediately remove records from provider backups or technical logs, copies already received by other people, or search-engine caches. Any exceptional retention for a dispute, security investigation or legal obligation should be limited to the records and period necessary.
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access to or a copy of your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and object to use based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent where processing depends on it. Contact us using the address above; we may need proportionate identity checks before releasing account information.
You can complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission or the supervisory authority available to you. Contacting us first may help resolve an issue, but is not a condition of making a complaint.
We will update this policy when our practices change and give appropriate notice of material changes. A new feature does not automatically authorise unrelated use of information already collected.
